Miami Dolphins wide receiver Grant DuBose was stretchered off the field after suffering a blow to the head during the team's 20-12 loss to the Houston Texans on Sunday. DuBose was taken to a hospital but was "in stable condition" and undergoing further evaluation, the team said. In the third quarter, DuBose was running down the middle of the field to catch a pass from Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa when Texans rookie safety Cullen Bullock hit him helmet-to-helmet. Bullock was penalized for unnecessarily harsh conduct in the play. DuBose lay on the field for more than 10 minutes while medical staff had to cut up his jersey, remove his facemask, and place a neck brace on him before being carted off Houston's NRG Stadium. Players from both teams gathered, some praying, as DuBose was treated on the field. CBS reported that DuBose continued to be treated by Harris County Emergency Services after being loaded into an ambulance. Tagovailoa said after the game that DuBose is "doing well" and "recovering well." The quarterback also wondered if he could have made the pass to DuBose differently. "I'm my toughest critic when it comes to ball placement, where to get the ball," Tagovailoa said after the Dolphins' loss. "I'm disappointed that I put him in a situation where he got hit. "It's been tough moving forward after that. ... Everybody knows I've been through something similar, and it's not fun." "You never want to be in that situation, but you understand this is a physical sport." According to CBS, Dubose is hospitalized at Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston. After the game, Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel gave an update on the injured wide receiver. "Some head and neck tests came back with positive feedback," McDaniel said. "He's going to be here overnight and we'll have more information by (Monday)," Brock said afterward that he never intended to hurt Dubose or anyone else. "I'm praying for him and his family. I hope he's OK," he said. "I just saw the ball and ran at it. It was just one of those plays," he said.
"It's very difficult for a defensive player because we have to think about guarding him, but at the same time we have to think about guarding ourselves," Bullock said. "You might hit us wrong. It's an angle." You think too much about protecting everybody on the field, but sometimes things just don't go your way. At the end of the day, it's still a violent game." CNN reached out to the Dolphins for comment. The Dolphins just added the 23-year-old DuBose to the roster for Sunday's game after he was on injured reserve with a shoulder injury.
